Terms of Service
These draft terms describe the rules for using Lar's apps and hosted services.
1. Agreement and provider
These terms are an agreement between you and [LEGAL ENTITY NAME — owner to supply] for the Lar apps, lar.io, and Lar-hosted services. They do not govern an independently operated self-hosted server unless its operator adopts them. Do not treat this draft as final terms until the banner above is removed and an effective date is supplied.
2. The service
Lar is a local-first note-taking application. Core workspace use can work locally without an account or continuous network connection. Optional hosted features include accounts, encrypted sync and sharing, encrypted web publication, capture channels, AI connections, and subscription entitlements. Feature availability can depend on platform, server configuration, and subscription plan.
You are responsible for maintaining access to your devices and encryption keys and for keeping independent backups. Sync is not a backup, and encryption cannot recover a lost key or a deleted workspace.
3. Accounts and security
You must provide accurate account information, protect your credentials and devices, and promptly revoke sessions you do not recognize. You are responsible for activity performed through your account except to the extent applicable law provides otherwise. Account age requirement: [AGE REQUIREMENT — owner to supply].
4. Your content and sharing choices
You retain whatever rights you hold in content you place in Lar. You give the service the limited permission needed to process encrypted data, operational metadata, and content you intentionally send through hosted AI, capture, or integration features to provide the features you choose. You must have the rights needed to upload, share, publish, or send content to another service.
A complete publication URL is a bearer capability: anyone who receives it can decrypt, read, and copy the selected snapshot. Removing a publication prevents future retrieval from Lar's endpoint but cannot retract copies already received. Cloud AI providers, connected integrations, and hosted capture gateways receive content only when you enable or invoke the corresponding feature, as described in the Privacy Policy.
5. Acceptable use
You may not use the hosted services to:
- break the law or violate another person's rights;
- gain unauthorized access to accounts, systems, or data;
- distribute malware or interfere with service operation or security;
- evade rate limits, access controls, quotas, or subscription restrictions; or
- use shared or published content in a way you are not authorized to use it.
Enforcement and appeal process: [ENFORCEMENT AND APPEAL PROCESS — owner to supply].
6. Third-party and open-source services
Optional OAuth, AI, integration, app-store, email, and billing services are provided by third parties under their own terms. Lar's source code and bundled dependencies remain subject to their applicable open-source licenses; these service terms do not replace those licenses.
7. Fees, cancellation, and taxes
Pricing, renewal, refund, cancellation, trial, and tax terms: [COMMERCIAL TERMS — owner to supply]. Purchases made through an app store may also be governed by that store's payment and refund rules.
8. Suspension, termination, and changes
You may stop using Lar and request deletion of a hosted account. Removing a hosted account does not itself delete local workspace copies. We may suspend or end hosted access for an acceptable-use breach, security risk, nonpayment, or where required by law, subject to: [NOTICE AND CURE TERMS — owner to supply].
Material-change notice and service-discontinuation commitments: [CHANGE NOTICE POLICY — owner to supply].
9. Disclaimers and liability
Warranty disclaimer: [WARRANTY LANGUAGE — legal counsel to supply]. Liability limits and exclusions: [LIABILITY LANGUAGE — legal counsel to supply].
Nothing in the final terms should exclude rights or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
10. Disputes and contact
Governing law, venue, and dispute process: [GOVERNING LAW, VENUE, AND DISPUTE TERMS — legal counsel to supply].
Questions about these terms: [CONTACT EMAIL — owner to supply]. Postal address: [POSTAL ADDRESS — owner to supply].
