Quick start
This guide takes you from an empty installation to a small, linked workspace. The wording follows the desktop interface; compact web and mobile layouts move navigation into the floating bar and More panel.
1. Create or open a workspace
Section titled “1. Create or open a workspace”On first launch, follow the workspace setup prompt. A workspace is the local boundary around your Objects, schemas, search index, settings, and encryption material.
- Give it a name you will recognize in the workspace switcher.
- Keep the default local sync mode while learning the app. You can opt into peer-to-peer, Cloud, or self-hosted sync later.
- Do not treat sync as backup. Use Settings → Backup & restore to create a portable workspace export.
2. Create an Object
Section titled “2. Create an Object”Choose New, press Mod+N, or use the Create action on compact layouts. Select an Object Type, then enter a title. Every Object has exactly one Type; the Type determines which properties and relations appear.
For a first workspace, create a few simple Objects:
- A
PersonObject named for someone you work with. - A
ProjectorNoteObject for something you are doing. - A
TaskObject with a due date.
Changes save locally as you work. The save-state indicator distinguishes saving, saved on this device, and a failed save.
3. Add structure and body content
Section titled “3. Add structure and body content”Fill the typed properties near the Object header. If the Type has a body, click below the properties and write using the block editor. Type / for blocks such as headings, lists, todos, code, media, and tables.
Type [[ to link another Object by title. Type # followed by a name to create or reuse a Tag. These links become part of the knowledge graph and appear in related-content panels.
4. Find it again
Section titled “4. Find it again”- Open search and type words from the title, properties, or indexed body.
- Open the command palette for recent Objects and application actions.
- Browse the Object Type in the Library.
- Pin important Objects or place them in a Collection.
5. Choose the next guide
Section titled “5. Choose the next guide”- Learn the interface in Tour the app.
- Design structured content in Objects & Types.
- Learn the body editor in Editor overview.
- Bring existing notes across with Import & export.
