Calendar and events
Lar’s Calendar brings together Daily Notes, Tasks, Events, and any custom Object Type with a Date or Date & time property.
Open and navigate the Calendar
Section titled “Open and navigate the Calendar”Choose Calendar in the sidebar, Library, floating navigation, or command palette. On a wider screen, choose a range:
- Month shows Daily Note preview cards across the month.
- Week shows seven compact day columns.
- Three days shows a focused rolling range.
- Day shows the full daily workspace, including Tasks, dated references, and Objects created that day.
Use the previous and next buttons to move by the active range. Choose Today to return to the current date. In Day view, use the calendar-rail button to show or hide the mini-month and dated-Object sidebar.
Compact layouts use a focused timeline for the selected day instead of the wide multi-column header.
Understand what appears on a day
Section titled “Understand what appears on a day”The full Day view can include:
- the Daily Note;
- open Tasks due that day;
- overdue open Tasks when the selected day is today;
- On this day, for Objects whose Date or Date & time property points to the day;
- Created on this day, for Objects originally created that day.
Task Objects are kept in the dedicated Tasks section rather than repeated under On this day. The Day sidebar groups dated Objects by Object Type.
Create a dated Object
Section titled “Create a dated Object”Object Types with a Date or Date & time property can offer a quick-create button at the top of a day. Choose the Type to create an Object with that property already set.
For a Date & time property, Lar supplies a default time for the chosen day. The new Object opens immediately so you can finish its title and other fields.
To configure a Type’s Calendar behavior:
- Open the Object Type’s settings.
- Choose Calendar Settings. This page appears when the Type has a date property.
- Configure whether Calendar shows a quick-create button and whether Objects of that Type appear in the Calendar sidebar.
Calendar quick-create can be shown, hidden, or limited to one Object per day, depending on the Type setting. Use the eye control in Calendar to temporarily hide or show the quick-create row.
Move dated Objects
Section titled “Move dated Objects”Drag a dated Object or Task from one day to another to update the property that placed it on the Calendar. The same update is available through Move to day in the item’s menu.
Changing an Object’s governing Date or Date & time property moves it in Calendar; it does not change the Object’s creation date.
Work with Tasks in Day view
Section titled “Work with Tasks in Day view”The Tasks section supports List and card-style display modes. From it you can:
- complete or reopen a Task;
- edit status, date, and priority;
- create a Task already dated to the selected day;
- move all open Tasks in the section to Today, Tomorrow, Next week, or Next month.
See Tasks for the Task dashboard, deadlines, and recurrence.
Subscribe to an ICS calendar
Section titled “Subscribe to an ICS calendar”Open Settings → Calendar to add an ICS or webcal subscription:
- Paste the subscription URL.
- Enter a name.
- Choose Add.
- Choose Sync as for the Object Type that should receive newly imported events.
Adding a subscription authorizes Lar to fetch that URL on a schedule. Each subscription shows whether its last refresh succeeded, failed, or has never run. Choose Refresh to fetch it immediately.
Changing Sync as affects events imported from then on. Existing Events keep their current Object Type. Removing a subscription stops future refreshes; it does not delete Events already created locally.
Connect Google, Microsoft, or CalDAV
Section titled “Connect Google, Microsoft, or CalDAV”The Calendar accounts group in Settings supports:
- Google, using your own Google Cloud OAuth client;
- Microsoft, using your own Azure AD public-client registration;
- CalDAV, using a server URL, username, and app-specific password.
After connecting:
- Load and select a calendar.
- Choose whether to enable two-way sync.
- Optionally enable pushing new local Events.
- Choose Sync now to run immediately.
Read-only remote calendars are labeled as read-only and cannot receive local changes. A connection that reports Needs reconnect must be authenticated again.
Removing a connected account deletes its stored credentials and stops sync. Events already created in Lar are never deleted by that removal.
Daily Notes
Section titled “Daily Notes”Every day can have at most one Date-keyed Daily Note. Choose the Daily Note area in Day view to create or open it, or use its menu to create it from a template. See Daily Notes for automatic creation and todo rollover.
