Configure sync

Every workspace starts local. Enable a sync mode only when you want the workspace available on other devices or need account-backed sharing.

Open Settings → Sync and select the mode appropriate to the workspace.

Mode Use it when Network dependency
Local The workspace should stay on this device None
Peer-to-peer / WebRTC Your own devices can meet online through configured signaling Signaling and simultaneous reachability
Cloud You want Lar’s hosted account, sync, and sharing endpoint Hosted service
Self-hosted You operate a compatible Lar server Your server

Peer-to-peer rooms use a room password. Cloud and self-hosted modes use the configured server origin for account, sharing, and workspace sync.

The Sync page shows connection and transfer information. Common states include disabled, idle, syncing, current, offline, degraded, and error. “Current” means pending updates have reached the selected transport; it is not a backup verification.

When reconnecting after offline work, leave the app open until pending transfers clear. Concurrent edits merge automatically.

Cloud and self-hosted workspace sync can show registered devices. Remove a device when it should no longer receive new workspace updates. Removing it does not remotely erase plaintext or encrypted content it already obtained.

Media availability may be configured separately—for example on demand, on Wi-Fi, or always available offline—because large files can lag behind Object metadata.

Awareness data such as live cursor position is ephemeral and is never persisted as workspace content. In per-Object sharing, presence is carried inside the encrypted collaboration channel.

  1. Confirm the selected mode and server address.
  2. Check account/device state for Cloud or self-hosted mode.
  3. Check whether the status reports offline, degraded, or error.
  4. Keep the active workspace open while queued transfers drain.
  5. Do not open the same browser workspace database in competing active tabs.
  6. Preserve the local data and create a backup before clearing or rebuilding anything.

See Self-hosting the relay for server operation and Troubleshooting for safe recovery steps.
