Keyboard shortcuts

Mod is the main modifier key: ⌘ Command on macOS and iOS, Ctrl on Windows and Linux. Shortcut labels on this site adapt to your device, so Ctrl+K shows as ⌘K on a Mac and Ctrl+K elsewhere. Alt is Option on a Mac. Ctrl written on its own always means the Control key, on every platform.

The tables list the defaults. Open Settings → Keyboard shortcuts to see your live bindings or change them, or press Ctrl+/ for an overlay of them.

Note

In a browser tab, the browser can keep some combinations for itself (for example Ctrl+N, Ctrl+T, Ctrl+W, and Ctrl+Tab), so Lar never sees them. If a shortcut does nothing in the browser, use another binding for the same command (Ctrl+K also opens the command palette) or reassign it in Settings.

Alt+Left / Alt+Right	Open the previous / next Object in the list you came from
Down or J / Up or K	Select the next / previous Object in a list

Ctrl+T opens the command palette, not Daily Notes. To jump to today’s note, use Ctrl+Shift+D or the Today button next to Calendar in the sidebar.

The bare keys J, K, and the arrow keys act on a list only when you are not typing in a field.

Undo (Ctrl+Z) and redo (Ctrl+Shift+Z) are listed in Settings for reference but cannot be reassigned.

Layouts

These switch the current Type’s page between layouts.

Media Objects

For an Object that has a media pane, such as a video or audio file with notes:

Ctrl+Shift+M	Hide or show the media pane
Ctrl+Shift+B	Hide or show the notes below the media

Present

The default binding for Present is ⇧⌘Y on macOS and Ctrl+Shift+Y on Windows and Linux. To use a different shortcut, reassign it in Settings, or start Present from the Object’s ⋯ menu.

Reassign a shortcut

1. Open Settings → Keyboard shortcuts. Search by name or key, or filter by category.
2. Find the command you want to change and choose Add shortcut.
3. Press the new combination, then choose Save.
4. If the recorder warns that the combination is also used by another command, remove it from one of them.

A command can have more than one binding. To go back to the defaults, choose Reset to default on that command.

Note

Lists, Captures, dialogs, the editor, and media viewers also have keys that only work in that context. Open the keyboard shortcuts overlay (Ctrl+/) while that surface is active to see them.
