Templates

A template supplies a starting state for a new Object. It can include properties and, when the Type has a body, body blocks. A template does not alter the Type’s schema.

  1. Open the Object whose structure you want to reuse.
  2. Open More and choose Save as template.
  3. Name the template and choose what to include.
  4. Save it for the Object’s Type.

Create and edit templates from Type settings

Section titled “Create and edit templates from Type settings”

Open Object type settings → Templates. From there you can create a template, edit its draft in the Object editor, rename it, mark it as the Type’s default, delete it, or open it as a full page.

Only one template can be the default for a Type. A default affects new Objects; it does not rewrite existing Objects.

Templates appear in the New menu and in Type and Collection template menus. You can also open an existing Object’s Use template menu to apply template content to it. Review populated values before replacing work on an existing Object.

The Templates section can export a self-contained template file and import one. Import first presents a plan for definitions that will be reused or added. Review that plan before committing, especially when the template depends on custom Types or schema definitions.
