Relations and backlinks

Relations turn connections into structured data. A Book can have an Author relation targeting Person; a Project can have many participants. The target Type and whether one or many links are allowed are part of the schema.

  1. Open Object type settings → Relations.
  2. Enter the relation name.
  3. Choose the target Object Type.
  4. Choose Single or Multiple cardinality.
  5. Add the relation, then open it for additional settings.

Relation settings can change the linked Type, cardinality, and whether choices come from a fixed set. Removing a relation orphans its links on Objects of that Type and therefore requires confirmation.

Two-way linking pairs two existing relations. Both Types must be custom Types, and the target Type must already own a non-deprecated relation with matching cardinality.

  1. Create the relation on each Type.
  2. Open one relation’s detail screen.
  3. Under Two-way linking, choose the matching relation on the target Type.

Adding or removing a link through either side then mirrors the change through the paired relation. Built-in Type relations cannot be selected as custom inverse definitions.

On an Object page, find the relation in its properties or details and choose Add. The picker only offers compatible target Objects. A single relation replaces its existing target; a multiple relation can hold several targets.

Typing [[Object title]] in a body creates a system mention link. Backlinks show Objects that point to the current Object, grouped or displayed according to the panel’s view controls. Where available, source context identifies the originating block so you can jump back to the relevant passage.

The Unlinked mentions section separately finds plain-text uses of an Object title that are not yet links. Review each result before converting it; matching words do not always mean the same Object.
